Well Owl Be! Make Your Own Wall Decorations

Making your own wall art is fun and easy!
Materials Needed:

  • material
  • canvas
  • paint brushes
  • turpentine (if using Oil)
  • Mod Podge
  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Make sure your canvas is clean, if you notice any dust or dirt give it a wipe.
  3. Start with the oil paint. The owl canvas is painted simple black, but you could depending on your fabric create awesome backgrounds.  I love the richness of oil paint, but it is serious stuff. It is slow drying so you can add colors and mix colors.  It does however, take a while to dry. So if you are using oil this process is going to take days rather than hours.
  4. While drying find your fabric and cut out some designs.  Trim any fly away treads. I cut out an owl
  5. Brush the Mod Podge over the fabric cut outs and apply to the canvas. Once placed on the canvas brush the Mod Podge over the top of the fabric.
  6. Let dry.
  7. Once dry, spray with sealer.
  8. Let dry.
  9. Once that is done, I added the small rhinestones with more Mod Podge.

Little Bottle of Luck by SugarBeetCrafts on Etsy

PIctures Jan feb 2014 367

St. Patty’s Day is just around the corner, March 17th to be exact. Oh, the memories of being pinched and chased as a child makes me wish I would have had this necklace back then! It seems no matter how hard I tried, I ALWAYS forgot to wear green. Man, did I always pay for it too. Not only did you get pinched in my school, it led to all kinds of evil shenanigans!

It took 33 years, but I finally found some 4 leaf clovers in the wild, I just had to go to Oklahoma to find them!

I found this cute 4 leaf clover myself, and added it to a small bottle charm with Mod Podge.

Have you been pinched on St. Patty’s Day?

Fun with resin!

I am new to resin… well, ok I have had it for a while… it’s been in a closet waiting patiently to be used. It took a while because honestly I was scared! I need to practice! I had a hard time with bubbles. Thankfully I was doing an underwater theme so the bubbles actually work. I am actually pretty happy with them. They make me smile..Finally a fish I can’t kill!

Dylusions Spray Inks by Dyan Reaveley and Ranger

For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive the full set of 18 Dylusions Ink Sprays, and I have to say I love them!!! Not a day has gone by that I am not covered in colors and happy as a clam about it. These inks have so many possibilities and are so much fun. Thank goodness they are super easy to get off with water if you accidentally *ahem, spray your floor counter and toaster oven, Tee Hee. My boyfriend is very tolerant.

If you have been curious or have never heard of these sprays you should absolutely check them out.

Here is the very first thing I made….

Bad picture but in real life it looks 3D.

Many more pics to come of my adventures in inks.

OH and on a side note, I don’t usually plug companies unless they really deserve it. I have to say Ranger has the best customer service. They are super nice and have a quick response time.

Who else loves Dylusions? What projects have you created?

Have a wonderful Weekend!

2013 and The Tote Bag Challenge

Hello Everyone! I am sorry for the disappearing act again. It was a crazy 2013, it was full of lessons and challenges.

We unfortunately lost two members of my boyfriends family, but were very grateful that both of my boyfriends parents are doing well. The beginning of the year started with my boyfriends father being hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs, and very soon after we found out his mother had liver cancer. We spent most of the year in Oklahoma trying to be whatever help we could be. Thankfully both are doing fantastic, and his mother is cancer free.

I have many plans for Sugar Beet Crafts over the next year. More blog posts, an Etsy account and lots of tutorials and reviews. Thank you for bearing with me during this crazy year.

I hope this next year is a wonderful change for everyone.

Here is my latest project:

My momma wanted some small pocketed tote bags to fill with goodies to give out to a few friends for Christmas. I am still super new to sewing so these totes took way too long but I was able to finish them up….. then I broke my sewing machine! I did something to it now the timing is off. So hopefully I can get it fixed soon.

Here are some pics my mom and aunt snapped.
